Here is My Absolutely BEST ADVICE!!

I'm quite sure I am not alone when I declare that one of biggest pet peeves is  UNSOLICITED ADVICE!   Isn't it interesting how many 'experts' there are amongst our peers who know EXACTLY how to lose that 10 pounds, or quit smoking?!   Or what you "should" or "need" to do in order to manifest that new business, or end that relationship.  And how absolutely giving they tend to be with their knowledge, especially when we RARELY ask for it.

While I was studying for a master's degree in Spiritual Psychology at the University of Santa Monica, the law regarding this epidemic was laid down the very first day of school.  While our class of nearly 300 was mingling about, introducing ourselves to one another for the first time, I noticed one of the program's lead instructors writing something in Gi-normous letters in the middle of the blackboard on the auditorium's stage.  Although she was writing in wipe away chalk, it was etched as indelible grace within my mind.   She wrote,  ‘The Most Damaging Deed One Can Do to Another's Soul, is Give Them Unsolicited Advice’.   For many in the class, that spiritual sentiment was worth the price of admission alone!  Learn it, Live it......   Spread it!!   Please!    Spread it!!   ;0)

Does this mean that we can't offer past experiences or insight to others with the intent of assisting them during a 'bump' in their personal Journey?  Absolutely NOT!  However, there are much more caring and impactful ways that we can be of service.  Here are THREE suggestions toward not giving anymore UNSOLICITED ADVICE:


1.  Determine how you should be showing up
Much of the time, we simply have the desire to be heard in life.  Especially those of us in the beautiful world of service. (teacher, coach, care-taker)   We tend to immediately rush in with an attempt to fix a situation or try and 'coach' somebody toward their goal.  I know I'm super guilty.  Perhaps the greatest act of respect you can offer someone is to simply ask them how they would like you to show up in the moment.  They may, for instance, just want you to listen.  Without saying a word.  Now there is a thought!!  lol

The next time you catch yourself wanting to pipe in with a soliloquy of unsolicited advice, try simply asking, "How would you like me to show up for you right now?"    You may be shocked to see how grateful they become!


2.  FIRST, ask if they would be open to a suggestion
One of the reasons giving unsolicited advice can be so hurtful is because most of the time, it comes across as though the way they are currently handling the situation or issue is ‘wrong.’  Nobody wants to feel inadequate, less than, and/or stupid.  By humbly asking if they would be ‘open’ to your suggestion, their defenses will typically go down, because it won't feel as though you are directly challenging them.  
And let's not kid ourselves.  Often times, we are really making something all about US when we extend unsolicited advice.

3. Refrain from using phrases that contain the words ‘Should’, ‘Need’, or ‘Ought’ 
I hate to break it to you, but as absolutely brilliant as you probably have come to be, you do NOT have anybody else's answers.  Don't take offense.  Neither did Jesus the Christ.  
My point is that the ONLY person who truly knows another person's TRUTH, is that person them-self.  You have no idea what anyone else needs or must do.  I have found great success by implementing the phrases, "What would it feel like if you..............  or  What do you think might happen if you.....".   Plus, by not giving specific advice, you don't have to worry about being held responsible by the consequences of your own words!

It doesn't impress me that you ALWAYS remember Birthdays and Anniversaries..

I'm curious how many times you've done something special for another...'JUST BECAUSE'....

I'll NEVER remember how many Facebook friends you have amassed.....

But I will NEVER forget the times you were a true friend by loving me in times of SORROW.....

I won't treat you any different based on how many degrees you have plastered on your walls....

But I will study how well you've learned by your previous mistakes 

I may never know how many musical instruments you have mastered...

But can you make my SOUL SMILE through the song your heart plays in my presence....

I'm not interested in your favorite bedtime stories from a childhood past....

I want to know what STORIES you tell yourself about your

own purpose for 'BEING'....

I could care less about your current net worth....

No.....What I want to understand, is in what ways are you

WORTHY of your own SUFFERINGS....

I won't notice how fancy your 'dance moves' may be...

I want to know if you are courageous enough to 'Dance to the Beat of Your Own Drummer' even if it means being laughed at for being 'DIFFERENT'

And PLEASE do not bore me with how technologically savvy you fancy yourself to be....

Rather...I want to comprehend why you'd rather TEXT ....Then

pick up the phone and hear my VOICE say.."I MISS YOU..TONS!!"..

I'm not interested in how many 'Thank You' notes you've sent for all the amazing gifts you may have received...

I want you to tell me how many times you've said "THANK YOU"..for still being your friend...Even AFTER your words may have 'cut to the bone'...

I will never be impressed by how much money you've earned, or even given away.....

I want to know how often you've shared your ABUNDANCE of FEARS and FAILURES with others.....So that they know they are NOT alone when confronted with theirs

And I will not be offended by how many times you forget my Birthday...

For the only thing I DESIRE you to remember...Is how utterly PERFECT...  You already are.......

Why ANGER Is Such A Radically TRANSFORMATIVE Emotion ..!!

One thing that I have witnessed time and time again on my Journey of self actualization is the reticence of so many on 'The Path' to delve into certain emotions that are so often erroneously judged as somehow BEING self destructive.  To the point that many of us are completely ignoring some of our inherent feelings as though they are troublesome in-laws we tolerate only when absolutely necessary.  And the byproduct of doing so is actually severely limiting the full arsenal of tools that we have been blessed with to navigate our own Hero's Journey!  And I don't know about you, but life is often anything but easy and I will take anything I can get my paws on that will assist me on my daily experiences!  Just sayin...   LOL

Life is like a series of personal paintings that allows us to to act as both the creator and artistic director of what we choose to convey to the WORLD!!  And because Everything is energy, what we expose to our individual canvases becomes something of a guidepost and magical mirror that the Universe uses like the Wizard of Oz to create the life our focused imaginations have etched on the fabric that lies within us.  And like Lady Gabrielle, who bestowed Frodo and his friends in The Lord of The Rings with gifts specifically picked out to assist them for the trials and tribulations still to come, the Universe has bestown us with the EXACT SAME GESTURE!!  That's right!  Our vision just often becomes completely clouded at times with the ILLUSIONS caused from our Egoic senses of separation.  We become so caught up in fighting the Darkness, that we temporarily forget that right before our spiritual lenses lies the most Powerful gift of consciousness we will ever be given! And they contain the components we use to create the images on our precious palettes.   And trust me, this treasure trove of delicious delights trumps ANYTHING our Spiritual Santa will ever hand deliver!!  So what is this wondrous package I am deliberately describing....   It's our FULL ARRAY OF FEELINGS AND EMOTIONS!!  For these contain the guideposts with a direct connection back to our Collective Consciousness and Soulful Desires..........  They are your Super Powers...And just like any Super Hero's process, you must learn how to wield them in a manner that serves your Highest Good!  

And the very first step in this process is to refrain from JUDGING ANY of these Blessings.  For they are the actual components that we use to joyfully cover our canvas with the vibrant colors that in conjunction with our IMAGINATION, create the life experiences of our heartfelt choosing!  How frickin cool is that!  We are all Picasso's in training (no matter your current level of artistic prowess--While you may be at stick figure level on this Earthly plane, you are already a master artisan in the Spiritual Sphere!)  I  Promise!!  :0)

And the ONE emotion that gets the worst wrap is that of ANGER!  And WHAT...A ...SHAME!!  I have been personal witness to a cacophony of individuals who erroneously believe that ANGER is an emotion that is laced with a completely destructive nature.  And to some degree, I can appreciate that connotation.  Especially because we are currently being bombarded with senseless acts of violence toward one another that are too many for me to even attempt to broach in this post.  And I won't even begin to touch on the anger and vitriol that is being conjured within our current political system.  

But my intention for writing today's post is to shed some light on this emotion that is the proverbial red headed stepchild of our vast array of FEELINGS.  And I will begin with this HERO's TIP.
Yes, ANGER used in an unconscious nature can cause a myriad of pain and self suffering.  Not to mention hatred, judgment, bitterness, and fear.  So it's no wonder that this emotion is shunned by so many as simply being something to eradicate from your creational arsenal.  

However, ANGER used with care and  Extreme Consciousness is one of the most powerful emotions ever devised by the Grand Creator Herself!   For wielding this fiery and incredibly charged feeling has been the backbone for creating more Miraculous change than we often allow ourselves to contemplate.   For ANGER channeled with Consciousness creates an almost unstoppable force that bulldozes through bullying, moves mountains that manifests great and everlasting shifts in long held beliefs, and becomes the elixir that supercharges the fortitude and strength needed to break through almost any limits holding us hostage from the forces of LOVE! 

Just think about all the movements that have forever altered social injustices, created permanent pillars of unbridled truth and spirit of generosity by unveiling the atrocities in our World, and created Heroes and Champions of much needed shifts in our perspective understanding!  I know I have used consciously channeled ANGER as a great motivating force when it seems like life has knocked me to the matt one to many times.  It has helped me get back up on my feet more determined than ever to kick my pain in the teeth and vanquish my challenges to the back of the life line!!  

Learning to control your Anger and focus it into a constructive nature can create MIRACLES!  Now this process can be a delicate balancing act when we begin to incorporate it into our lives.  For this emotion is so powerful, that it can easily be turned back into a vibration of unconsciousness.  So I urge you to practice with caution as you begin the art of using it as a force for unmeasurable shifts in Godly change.  

And please be vulnerable enough during this training process to share with your TRIBE your new practice of channeling ANGER for intentional and focused change and growth. Just so there is no misunderstanding of your new intentions.........

Are YOU a SPIRITUAL ENTERTAINER...OR a True LIGHTWORKER..??

TODAY'S INSPIRATIONAL “MYTHOLOGICAL MAGIC’

Since the mid 2000's, there has been a growing group of individuals who practice what I call ‘Spiritual Entertainment.’  These searchers of  the easy way toward Truth have become professional masters who can absolutely WOW you or a group of people with their spiritual vernacular and perfected practice of various quotes from books they have obviously read many times over.  And their talent in captivating a group is absolutely undeniable.  And the confidence in their seemingly innate ability to capture a group's attention with epithets of the rules to SUCCESS and Soulful Nirvana are things worthy of America's Got Talent!  But upon deeper investigation, you realize that their Spiritual Song and Dance Show is more surface based than they would have you believe.  While they may have perfected the vernacular that enthralls those seeking The Way, with just one singular peak behind the true Wisdom of Their Wizard's curtain, you realize that what they are actually peddling is all Egoistic in nature.  They wish to be liked, seen, heard, and validated by the rest of us.  They ‘talk the talk’ but when it comes to actually living what they are teaching, well,  their magical semantics become a hoax of well rehearsed riveting routines that falsely capture the hard work, dedication, and courage it takes to take the first steps toward your own Hero's/ Heroine's Journey.  

This form of ‘Spiritual Entertainment’ is hollow, superficial and leaves us feeling empty.  Not unlike any form of a quick fix we seek to fill any various forms of pain and disconnection that we all face when we become completely detached from our connection to SOURCE.  
This form of spiritual narcissism is captured perfect in the following Bible quote:“Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.” - 1 John 4:1

As you can imagine, during my 20 year history on my own path of self realization, I have come across many of these Spirits who peddle a get spiritual rich quick program of one from or another.  And my goal here is NOT TO JUDGE THEM.  They are on their path and like the rest of us, deserve the dignity of their own individual process.  However, that DOES NOT mean that we must not choose to love them from the other side of the room!  Right?! Many of us on the path of righteousness are fragile and vulnerable.  Most of us are in pain and seeking a way toward's our own SOULS salvation.   So I thought I would share some tell tale signs that you may be dealing with a “Spiritual Narcissist” in order to support you in continuing your path of functional and soulful Purpose!

1.) They Constantly Reference their own Achievements

The Spiritual Narcissist loves to self-promote. For them, every conversation is an opportunity to share just how superior they are to the average believer. They typically go about this by listing off their own achievements. You’ll hear them talk incessantly about their upcoming book, their latest achievement, sermon series, missions work, or that time they led someone to the TRUTH.

2.) They Invade Conversations

The Spiritual Narcissist craves control, and their highest authority is always their own self-reference. As a result, it’s not uncommon for them to invade the personal or private conversations of others. They’ll often do this under the guise of “helping” or “correcting” fellow SEEKERS, but they have no real interest in two-way dialogue.  You can choose to be loving or be RIGHT, and these individuals tend toward the latter!!

3.) They Twist The Word Of God

Susan B. Anthony once said, “I distrust those people who know so well what God wants them to do, because I notice it always coincides with their own desires”. In the same way, a Spiritual Narcissist uses scripture as a tool for their purpose instead of God’s. They approach the Bible/Koran/or any spiritual understanding with a closed mind, memorizing only a handful of useful verses that will justify their behavior. Anything else, particularly scripture that conflicts with their actions, gets ignored. 

The best defense TRUTH SEEKERS have against this kind of faulty theology is to simply read from the words of our world sacred spiritual teachers. The more familiar we become with God’s work, the more familiar we become with God.

4.) They Profess Love, but RARELY Show It 

Perhaps the easiest way to identify a Spiritual Narcissist is to see if their works match their words. Many will claim they have nothing but love and compassion in their hearts for those they rebuke, but their actions prove otherwise. God says we can judge a prophet by the fruit of his labors, “A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit.” So, what kind of harvest do they bring to God’s table? Division? Disdain? Cruelty?

Love is more than words, love is actions. That’s what separates the true Seeker from the Spiritual Narcissist.

5.) They Talk, but They Don’t Listen

Listening can be a powerful tool. Listening builds trust, creates empathy, and fosters understanding among individuals.  The Spiritual Narcissist, by contrast, is quick to speak, quick to take offense, and incapable of listening. They enjoy being the loudest one in the room, and the idea of deferring to someone else galls them.

A true Spiritualist listens to others, even when they might not agree with them. Listening requires that we be selfless, which is the one thing a Spiritual Narcissist can never be.

Before I close this post, I want to reiterate that I am in NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM judging any Spirit in the Cosmos.  I truly DO NOT believe in Right vs. Wrong.  And certainly do not adhere to any practice that would place judgment on ANY SOUL. I fervently believe that all SOULS are EXACTLY where they need to be in their own individual process of understanding and maturation.   But for those of us who have transcended certain levels of consciousness, it only impedes our continued growth to engage with these individuals who are still ‘finding their way.’

In time, I know we will all dance in one grand SOULABRATION of TRUTH and Re-membrance, and when that future moment of NOW occurs, I will be the very first one on the dance floor and the very last one off!!   And I welcome any and ALL dance partners on that Sacred Day!!!!  My dancing partner list is ready to be filled!!!

I am often asked how is that I am able to allow my true vulnerability to be paraded through the daily posts on my blog, as well as with all my daily clients.  And it DOES NOT stop there!  My vulnerability is as equally on constant display with my friends and family members as well.  Keeping with this notion, I will be vulnerable and completely transparent to share with the New Age Nerd community that this has NOT always been the case.  In fact, far from it!  I used to be incredibly withdrawn and shy.  I remember one story during High School in which my sister (One year my junior) came home one day and asked if she could have a chat .  She said that she had been confronted from several of her cute girlfriends who did not not know what to think of me.  They would invariably approach me during breaks between classes, to which I would politely say “Hi!” and then promptly walk away!  This was in no way an indication of my core BEING.  I have always been kind, compassionate, and extremely sensitive!  Now what it demonstrated  was a telltale sign of  my lack of self worth and self love that any girl would want anything to do with me at that point in my life.  I say that not to sound pathetic, but rather to be transparent in my own process toward self realization.  And while I did go back to each and every one of these young ladies to apologize for my behavior, I DO NOT regret one moment of the experience these co-creations afforded me.  Why?!?   Because they have now become a pantheon in my personal BOOK of My Hero's Journey toward my purpose and path.  And I have accepted them all for the gifts they have brought me and that I now use to share with others who are still searching through their own darkness, looking for the light of their salvation.  

Please do not UNDERESTIMATE the POWER of your own Story!  It is not the highest choice to allow your story to DEFINE WHO YOU TRULY ARE!  But sharing your pain, challenges, and Soulful Struggles are perhaps the most potent gift we can offer one another.  One of my favorite quotes comes from Harold Goddard who declared with such mythological wisdom, “The destiny of the world is less determined from the battles lost and won than by the stories it loves and believes in.”  Amen to that!  In fact, that is why I begin every post with “Mythological Magic.”   As Joseph Campbell learned through several decades of study, stories and myths contain the spiritual guideposts to our own TRUTH!  It is not a coincidence that we all flock to movies like Star Wars, Lord of The Rings, and the latest comic book movie at our local cineplex.  Whether we realize it or not, these stories touch our subconscious with an inspirational zest we take away from the theatre and incorporate into our own Hero's/Heroine's Journey!!

Somebody once told me with firm conviction that the five most important words you can share with someone are:   LET ME TELL YOU A STORY!!  Not to make a co-creation all about you however.  Quite the opposite actually.  It is the most authentic manner of showing others our VULNERABILITY.  Bene Brown, a vulnerability expert did an entire Ted talk about this very subject.  In her speech, she says that it is not just the fear of failure and shame that causes people to feel vulnerable, making them risk averse and paralyzing them into inaction. Brown says that you must believe in yourself and “have the courage to be imperfect” and accept vulnerability. Brown says that you must “believe you are enough”, which will allow you to accept vulnerability, take risks, and reap the rewards.   And I will add to that that it is in the process of sharing our own vulnerability with others that emits a Shining and Soulful Light to let others know that not only are they never alone in their pain and suffering, but there is a LOVE Light at the end of the tunnel waiting to embrace them like a marathon runner who has finished their treacherous  race!!  But this race has no ending.  It is just the ending of one process toward transformation and Re-membrance, as we head to the next chapter!

As a Life and Leadership Master Coach, I cannot tell you how many times my vulnerable sharing of lessons learned along my path have created true AH HA moments of transcendence for my clients!   Whether you are a coach or not, we ALL have the same capability of giving  to others parts of our personal stories when appropriate.  May I just ask you to Re-member as a strong suggestion to ALWAYS ask permission before giving out unsolicited advice.  For doing so can be a very disrespectful and painful action step toward another Soul's precious process and unique Journey!  But as long as there is a mutual consensus to do so, you may be delightfully amazed at the power of true change and new transformative creation your stories contain for the world to hear...........

Given the fact that I have a amassed a collection of over 400 books, it is no wonder my TRIBE members are very apt to ask me if I have read a particular title from time too time.  And I am so grateful for each and every suggestion I am engaged with.  In fact, many of my favorite tombs have come from these very recommendations through out the years since I began on my journey of Self Actualization.  Most of the time, I actually receive these inquiries with complete reverence and gratitude, because I believe it is the Universe's way of tapping me on the shoulder to pay attention.  Something is on its way that I must be ready to receive in all its ethereal glory!  Now when this typically occurs, I stop whatever it is that I am doing and take a note on the book/film/blog being introduced to me and investigate the source material as soon as possible.  When the student is ready, the teacher appears.  And I have come to realize that my Journey is a continuing oscillation between being a teacher and student, often at the same time.  LOL  Which makes perfect sense because I have come to find that most coaches/teachers preach that which they need to learn themselves.   Even master Miyagi from the Karate Kid had much to learn from Danielson during their symbiotic relationship.

So when a true TRIBE member of mine recently inquired about my knowledge of a decades old book title, I did not hesitate to investigate everything about it.  And once again, I found it to be a wonderful addition to my robust collection.  Even the book's title had me excited as it was imbued with a mythical, fairy tale essence that completely resonates with my love of MYTHOLOGY and the Hero's/Heroine's Journey that informs The New Age Nerd within us all!

The book is called ‘Your Words are Your Wand‘ and it was written back in the 1920's by a pioneer in the New Thought movement named Florence Scovel Shinn.  Born in 1871, Ms. Shinn was an artist and metaphysics teacher in New York city in the early 20th Century.  Although she had a devout following during her time, her legacy has not had the same sort of long lasting impact of other New Thought leaders from her era such as Napoleon Hill and Earl Nightingale.  And that's a shame because her book, while short in length, contains a wealth of practical and wisdom filled knowledge for anyone who is a TRUTH SEEKER and Bringer of the Light.  The archetypes that are so desperately needed in our current times of disconnection from the fact that WE ARE ALL ONE!

There is something about the book's title itself that strikes a powerful image of the magic that is imbued deep within each and every one of us and can be unleashed with the use of our WORDS.

Being a writer, I personally have a love affair with words and their ability to shift perspectives, heal long held wounds, and give clarity and newfound direction to the most lost of Souls.  Author Diane Setterfield, a like minded lover of words said, “There is something about words. In expert hands, manipulated deftly, they take you prisoner. Wind themselves around your limbs like spider silk, and when you are so enthralled you cannot move, they pierce your skin, enter your blood, numb your thoughts. Inside you they work their magic.” 

Of course, the simple wisdom within ‘Your Words are Your Wand’ are equally powerful.  In one passage Shinn espouses, “Man's word is his wand filled with magic and power.  So man has the power to change an unhappy condition by waving over it the wand of his word.  In the place of sorrow appears joy, in the place of sickness becomes health, in the place of lack appears plenty."

The point here is that or as much as we sometimes feel as though we have little control over our lives, there are several elements and tools which are such a powerful part of the experiences that manifest into our world. Our word is certainly one of those controllable factors we all share and that has a massive amount of influence in our own disposition, not to mention how much it has to do with the manifestations that appear in our experience. 

In fact, God himself told Abraham that his name was ‘I AM’.  And that whatever words were placed after those two words, literally send out a vibration of energy to the Universe as a declaration of who you think you are and your experiences become a direct correlation to that very pronouncement.  Makes you want to think twice before uttering flippant declarations in that manner doesn't it?!  LOL  And if it doesn't, learn to become much more aware of every word you utter to yourself and others and see the massive difference it causes in your life.  

Our words are such miraculous gift given to us all, and they have the ability to both empower and terribly injure in due nature. In fact, many believe that verbal abuse can be more damaging than physical abuse.  And for those of us who have been or are currently being verbally abused, we know the devastating effect words can have.  Why would we choose to use our words as form of hurt and pain, when our words are TRULY our wands and can be used in ways that create MIRACLES and to help others Re-member who they truly are!  What a wonderful world that could be!!   Right?!

So this evening I ask you in what new ways can you begin a daily practice of realization that our words are our personal magical wands, able to conjure transcendent amounts of LOVE, empowerment, confidence, connection, and belief in everyone we interact with on a daily basis.  And incorporate this incredible magical power within us all, to use our words as a form of transcendent action and energy toward one another ALWAYS and in all ways from now on.
